CHAIR BOUND SPORTSMAN GROUP PHEASANT HUNT AT 4-MILE HUNTING CLUB ON SEPTEMBER 27, 2018Chair bound Sportsman Group Pheasant Hunt at 4-Mile Hunting Club on September 27, 2018

Another successful group pheasant hunt for 6 wheelchair bound persons, 1 Veteran and 3 youth. The group was separated into two different fields and volunteer helpers included 6 different dog handlers, 7 four-wheeler drivers and several who partnered with hunters to help with guns and ammunition and bird collections.

One hunter new to the group, Missy, who is 12 years old, and in a wheelchair due to Spina Bifida, was presented by Chair Bound Sportsman with her very own 20 gauge semi-auto shotgun in pink camo with her name engraved on it to the delight of everyone present. It featured a gas relief action so the recoil was greatly reduced. She later proudly said that she shot two pheasants. One of our long-time members, who has been a quad from an accident about 18 years ago, also successfully shot a rooster pheasant.

After lunch more birds were planted and volunteers were given the chance to be the shooters. This was a token “thanks” for all their wonderful support. Special thanks is due to Scott Bateman who arranged for four-wheelers with boat seats securely mounted on the front giving hunters great views of the hunt, dogs working, and vantage to safely shoot at flying birds. This provided mobility during the entire hunt as a volunteer drove them and offered any additional assistance that might be needed.

The 4-Mile Owners, Earl Sorensen and his family, were also great support during the hunt. Our volunteer professional photographer and story writer Ed Helmick deserves honorable mention for his consistent dedicated support.
